Shopko is headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with two divisions: Shopko and Shopko Express Rx. We employ more than 16-thousand teammates in 13 states, in more than 135 stores, generating annual sales exceeding $ 2.2 billion.

Shopko was founded by a pharmacist, James Ruben. When Ruben opened Shopko’s first store in Green Bay in 1962, he envisioned a company focused on three main themes: quality, convenience and value. He saw the opportunity to combine health care services with a large discount store, and ShopKo became one of the first mass retailers to feature pharmacies and eye care centers in its stores.

In 1991, Shopko Stores Inc. became a publicly-held, independent company with stock traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “SKO”. In December of 2005, Shopko Stores, Inc. was purchased by an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc. and no longer is a publicly-owned corporation.

Shopko Division

The Shopko division has 135 stores in 13 states. Located in mid-sized to larger cities, Shopko stores are multi-department retail stores committed to offering quality merchandise, services and value to meet customers’ needs for home, family basics, casual apparel and seasonal products, with a special emphasis on retail health.

Shopko stores deliver a great customer experience. Our stores are clean, spacious, well-lit, and easy to shop with friendly service, and trend correct, quality merchandise, including name-brand merchandise like Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Kitchen Aid, Fisher-Price, and Sony. Shopko offers private label brands as well, like Bailey’s Point, NorthCrest, Energy Zone, Soft Sensations, Soon to Be and Green Soda.

Shopko Express Rx Division

Shopko Express Rx is a neighborhood drug store format focused on providing professional pharmacy services, health and wellness products and information, home business solutions, and photo processing, as well as a convenient assortment of food and beverages and traditional drug store merchandise.

Commitment to Retail Health

Shopko’s professional dedication to retail health makes us unique from other retailers. Nearly all Shopko stores offer pharmacies and in-store eye care centers. Pharmacy and eye care centers represent about 30 percent of the Shopko division’s sales. Shopko is the second largest pharmacy in the entire country when it comes to number of prescriptions filled per store, per day. Our pharmacists fill more than 12-million prescriptions a year and our stores are set up so our pharmacists can provide private, one-on-one consultations with patients.

Our expertise in retail health has led to another opportunity for Shopko – stand-alone drug stores called Shopko Express. Opened in 2005, these stores feature drive-thru pharmacies, health and beauty aids, cosmetics, skin care products, over-the-counter medications, wellness products, photo processing, convenience foods and general merchandise. Some stores will also feature full service eye care centers.
