Medical Firsts

1870 - Jacksonville's first hospital and Florida's first non-military hospital.

1925 - First medical residency program in the state of Florida (surgery).

1948 - First cancer program in Florida

1960 - First open heart surgery in Jacksonville.

1960 - First radiation oncology program in Jacksonville.

1969 - First pediatric cardiology program.

1972 - First gynecologic oncology program in Jacksonville.

1972 - First neonatology program in Jacksonville.

1983 - First Level I trauma center in Florida.

1989 - First kidney transplant in Northeast Florida.

1998 - First heart transplant performed in Jacksonville.
