The Department of Pharmacy provides state of the art clinical pharmacy services, built around the foundation of dedicated medically specific, nursing unit based clinical pharmacists. The department provides fully computerized pharmacy system, 24 hour coverage, unit dose and IV admixture and satellite pharmacies. The Clinical Staff Pharmacist Practice Model was developed to expand on clinical pharmacy services provided to hospitalized patients through utilization of Clinical Staff Pharmacists. The Clinical Staff Pharmacists act to bridge the current gap between the significant operational role of staff pharmacists (in satellite and central pharmacies) and the specialized role of advanced level practitioners, the Pharmaceutical Care Specialists, who provide Pharmacotherapy Specialty services. Clinical Staff Pharmacists work closely with Pharmaceutical Care Specialists to extend pharmaceutical care services and address the drug-related problems of hospitalized patients while maintaining liaison relationships with the respective satellite pharmacists. Clinical Staff and Staff Pharmacists are involved in an expanding number of clinical services.

Currently, pharmacists are an integral part of the medical teams in internal medicine, critical care, hematology/oncology, transplant cardiology, neurology and cardiothoracic specialties. Other pharmacist opportunities include the Pharmaceutical Care Clinic, manufacturing and compounding, Investigational Drug Services, outpatient pharmacy and the Drug Information Center.
