Cambridge Health Alliance

Cambridge Health Alliance is a nationally recognized, award-winning healthcare system that serves the residents of Cambridge, Somerville and Boston’s Metro-North region. It is comprised of The Cambridge Hospital, Somerville Hospital, Whidden Memorial Hospital, more than 20 primary care practices, the Cambridge Public Health Department, the Alliance Foundation for Community Health, and Network Health - a statewide managed Medicaid health plan.

Cambridge Health Alliance is a unique model that incorporates public health, clinical care, academics, and research. As an integrated system, it offers a wide variety of services including medical specialties, surgical specialties, obstetrics, and primary care for all ages. It also offers unique programs for multicultural populations and, through its Harvard-affiliated Department of Psychiatry, is a strong, regional provider of critical mental health services.

Over the past decade, the respected staff and programs at Cambridge Health Alliance have garnered a national reputation for healthcare innovation and community excellence. In 1993, The Cambridge Hospital was the recipient of the Foster G. McGaw Prize, the industry's highest honor. From 2001 to 2003, the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems bestowed five Safety Net Awards on the Alliance, including recognition of its Cultural and Linguistic Competency. Most recently, the Alliance was chosen by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as one of seven health systems in the nation to participate in the prestigious Pursuing Perfection program, aiming to help transform the delivery of health care.

The Cambridge Hospital is a modern medical center affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Located a half mile from Harvard Square, the hospital has many health services including 24-hour emergency care, primary care, obstetrics, surgery, specialty care, and mental health programs.

Over the past several years, Cambridge Health Alliance has invested in the health of patients at The Cambridge Hospital. This has included new doctor's offices, emergency department, and surgery suite. There is also new testing equipment, like an open MRI and a 16-slice CT scanner, the first of its kind in the area.

The mission of Cambridge Health Alliance is to improve the health of its communities. With great nurses, more than 100 doctors who teach at Harvard Medical School, and a wide range of services, The Cambridge Hospital is able to do this every day.

Somerville Hospital is a busy care center that serves the city's 80,000 residents. Located on Highland Avenue, the hospital offers many health services including 24-hour emergency care, primary care, surgery, specialty care, and mental health programs.

Over the past several years, Cambridge Health Alliance has invested in the health of patients at Somerville Hospital. This has included new doctor's offices, a new hospital ward for older adults, and a brand new radiology suite. There is also new testing equipment, like a CT scanner, nuclear medicine camera, and ultrasound machine.

The mission of Cambridge Health Alliance is to improve the health of its communities. With great nurses, doctors who teach at Harvard Medical School, and a wide range of services, Somerville Hospital is able to do this every day.

Whidden Memorial Hospital

Whidden Memorial Hospital is a busy community hospital that serves Everett, Revere, Chelsea, Winthrop, and Malden, MA. As the only hospital in this five-city area, the staff at Whidden provide many services including 24-hour emergency care, primary care, surgery, specialty care, and mental health programs.

Since taking over Whidden in July 2001, Cambridge Health Alliance has invested in patient health. This has included building a new medical suite, two new mental health units, and a new Express Care emergency room. It has also brought in new doctors from Cambridge and Somerville to assist the excellent Whidden medical staff.
